Synology DSM 7

ClamAV-powered scanning for Synology NAS

Install one DSM package with the Chowder interface, ClamAV scanner, FreshClam configuration and initial malware definitions. Select existing shared folders and scan them read-only by default.

A visible DSM application

Open Chowder from the DSM application menu to see scanner health, definition health, scan progress, local history, schedules, updates, quarantine, settings and logs.

Explicit shared-folder access

Administrators select existing visible shared folders. Chowder does not create, delete, move or silently broaden permissions on customer shares.

One package, one non-root service

The SPK runs under a dedicated DSM package account and includes the scanner stack needed by this package revision. Package-owned history and settings survive upgrades.

Synology malware scanning questions

Does Chowder scan every share automatically?

No. An administrator explicitly selects an existing shared folder. The default access model is read-only and a partial scan is never reported as clean.

Can I use Standard without a licence?

Yes. The same package provides Standard scanning. A Clarity activation unlocks the paid report/export features; Paddle credentials never enter the NAS package.

Why is ARM64 unavailable?

Package layout alone is not enough. ARM64 will be published only after installation, ClamAV execution and the complete scan journey pass on native Synology ARM hardware.
